Welcome to the new home of M6OER on the web. This site is my radio shack online: a blog for what I get up to on the bands, a logbook you can search, a calendar of when I plan to be on air, and a few live gadgets that update by themselves. Here is a quick tour.
Live from the rig
The status card on the home page is connected to my radio. When my FT-450D is switched on and Ham Radio Deluxe is running, a small program on the shack PC sends the current frequency and mode to the website every few seconds. The site then switches to ON AIR automatically and shows exactly where I am, for example 14.074.000 FT8. When I go QRT, it switches back to off air on its own.
Data modes are recognised from the dial frequency, so if you see FT8, FT4 or JS8 on the display, that is where to look for me on the waterfall.
Are you in my log?
The Logbook page lists my recent contacts and has a search box: type your callsign and you will see straight away whether we have had a QSO. The log is synchronised automatically with my QRZ.com logbook, so new contacts and QSL confirmations appear without me having to copy anything by hand.
Only the basics are public – callsign, date, time (UTC), band, mode, RST and country. Names, QTHs and notes stay private.
On the air calendar
The Calendar shows contests, nets, portable activations and club nights I am planning to take part in. All times are shown in UK local time with UTC alongside. If you would like the events in your own calendar, use the iCal button – it works with Google Calendar, Apple Calendar and Outlook and updates automatically.
Band conditions
The band-conditions panel is live solar-terrestrial data from N0NBH at hamqsl.com, refreshed every hour. If you are not sure what all the numbers mean, I have written a short guide: Band conditions explained: SFI, A-index and K-index.
Get in touch
Want to arrange a sked, ask about a QSL or just say hello? Use the Contact page. And of course, if you hear me on the air, give me a call.
